Ohm's Blogging Learning Story

Ohm began blogging shortly after he became a learner at OrmPS.  His blog has various posts on a diverse range of topics and he also has a number of comments from his blog buddy and other classmates.  We spent time learning to write quality comments using a ‘comment sandwich’ in Term 2 and Term 3 so Ohm is still developing his capability to do this on his classmates blogs and thus is beginning to connect authentically with other learners.  Ohms posts are evidence of how he connects with the things in which he enjoys, whether at home or at school.  He has learned to embed images into posts which enhances their readability.  Ohm has enjoyed reading our Learning Habitat 1 blog as well and has collaborated to construct some posts with his hapu group.  It has been fantastic to review his posts since she started blogging to see how his capability at writing for an audience is improving. His most recent post, when he took Cooper the Kea hapu group mascot home was one of his best as it is his longest and most detailed post to date.  Many of his posts demonstrate his passion, values and sense of adventure.

Next Learning Steps
  • write posts using a range of styles- including contrasts which are highly engaging
  • write blog posts over the holidays with family and continue to visit classmates blogs to leave comments.
  • label or ‘tag’ each post so they are searchable in the future
  • proofread each post by reading it out loud, to a buddy at school or a parent at home to develop capabilities at catching punctuation and grammatical errors
  • ensure the quantity and quality of each post are up to standard (aiming for a minimum of 6 quality sentences)
  • continue to practice using the comment sandwich to provide feed forward to classmates
  • respond to comments on his posts
  • write comments on every learning story his Learning Coaches post
  • ensure images are licensed for reuse (creative commons copyright)

Me and Coopers adventure

First me and cooper stepped in the house and went straight up stairs and I changed my clothes,me and cooper watched T.V,first we watched The Thundermans  for like 15 minutes and then we watched Teen Titans Go for 10 minutes and the we got bored so then I wanted to play soccer so we played soccer but cooper won.Then we played with the nerf guns so all we had to do is to hit the target,first person(Bird) to do it wins but cooper won again.After we had a staring contest,I said 3,2,1 GO! And we stared,it was still going on and then all of a sudden something came in my eye and I blinked and cooper won again 3 times in a row.Then cooper found my piggy bank and I opened it so cooper could see,then i closed it and i went to the bathroom and cooper put his wing in front of it and took half of my money and put it o my bed.So then I came out of the bathroom and I saw him so I out him in timeout and then after 5 minutes I took him out of timeout and said do not do it again.Then finally we went to bed and I said I my not poor.


                        The CHALLENGE is to try make the other person laugh!!!!!!!!!

Shivin, Nehaal, Ohm: Rights and Responsibilities/ Citizenship

Learning Observed, Key Competencies/ Vision Principles
Ohm is participating in an iExperience session. In this session we are focusing on the topic Rights, Responsibilities and Citizenship. His group collaborated to create their own country. Ohm participated and contributed to the group in an effective way. He contributed ideas towards how his group could come up with the name for their country. Also he used his thinking skills to come up with reasons for why he felt that his country should have certain rights and responsibilities, such as “having freedom and no limits”. By doing this he shows that he is very capable of sharing helpful ideas that contribute towards the progress of his own and others work. During this session he and his group have to manage themselves by deciding who will take responsibility for each of the different parts of the overall task: creating a country name, emblem, motto, flag, national anthem and laws. Ohm and his group will have to connect each part of the task that they took responsibility for in order to present the country they created.

Rahi, Ved & Ohm's 3D Printing Learning Story

Rahi, Ved and Ohm chose to participate in 3D Printing during iExperience during Week 7-10 this term. We initially learnt about the Thinker’s Key called ‘BAR’. BAR stands for Bigger, Add, Replace. To practise, the learners had to pick either a pen, lunch box or tennis racquet to make a feature bigger, add to the item and replace something. The learners had as much creative license as they needed and then they reflected on how functional the item had become - could it still be used for its original purpose?
The next stage was to come up with an item that we use at school and repeat the BAR process. Rahi, Ved and Ohm decided on a upgrade to the wheelie chairs we have in our habitat.
Rahi, Ved and Ohm had to use the website TinkerCad to design their new and improved chair. They had to use the pre-existing shapes to form their 3D model which was then printed out by our LH1 3D printer.
After analysing their printed model, the boys were able to write a description about who would use it, why they designed it and what its features were. They also spent some time reflecting on improvements and redesigning it on TinkerCad to show these changes.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Rahi, Ved and Ohm were collaborative during this process by sharing ideas and coming up with other ways to show creativity (Thinking, Participating & Contributing). They demonstrated curiosity by engaging with the entire technology process of designing, making, redesigning and evaluating. Rahi, Ohm and Ved were connected as they were able to show their learning in three different mediums (paper, digital and printed model).
Next Learning Steps
  • Complete the second design on TinkerCad and print if time allows.
  • Use the 3D printer as a component of an iExplore.
  • Create a tutorial video to teach other learners in the habitat how to use TinkerCad.

                          drink and eat lots of things that I love anytime and every time I want.

Swimming

On a Sunday morning I woke up and had breakfast then it was time for my friend and I were going to do swimming.After I went upstairs and wore my swimming cloths and went back down stairs and went to my friends car and then I said bye to my dad.Then I went in the car an then we left to the swimming pools, me and my friend were playing a game the game was that we had to spot lots of toyota cars and count them and then in about 5 mins we were here at the pools then he told me how much toyota cars he got and he got 30 cars and I got 25 cars and then we add them together and we got 55 cars in total. Then in 2 mins we got here at the pools, then we went in the pool and played for 10 mins and then my friend had to go to his swimming lessons so then he went to his swimming lessons and I was still in the pool I had to wait haft an hour but finally my friends swimming lessons were over so then I got my ball and we played a game.We had to throw the ball over a line and the other person had to catch the ball to get points it was first to 5 so then we played for 3 mins and the winner was me but then we had to go home so then we changed and went back home.

Ohm & Justin - Author's Purpose Learning Story

Ohm and Justin attended a literacy workshop which was aimed at one of the Learning Progressions that each learner has on their Learning Pathway. We were looking specifically at how an author might use features on the cover and spine, in the blurb and in the text. The learners had to work together to analyse a text and identify why the author included these features and what they told the viewer about the text.
Ohm and Justin worked as a group on a variety of novels, connecting how the author may have used features that were the same or different on each text. They showed an increased capability in this when talking together about how the cover image, title, blurb and first page gave an idea of the theme and the author’s purpose. As they collaborated, each of the boys were able to extend their own knowledge by building on it with the ideas of the other group members.

Next Learning Steps
  • Finish a Best Fit Novel and analyse the Author’s Purpose after reading the entire book.
  • Record this analysis either in writing, video or audio.
  • Upload this as evidence in their Literacy Learning Pathways.



As I woke up in my warm bed,I was ready for my first day at school.I got ready and then had breakfast and me and my mum went in the car so she could drop me at school.Then finally we got here, then Mr Mc Neil showed me were to go and then I got in class I was nervous but I went in.Then Mr Mc Neil showed me the teachers and then the teacher told me their names and then someone came to me and said do you want to be friends and so I said yes
